It’s done. The crochet pin banner I made for my enamel pin collection is finished, and my little pins finally have a home that isn’t a drawer, a bag pocket, or wherever pins go when they vanish into the void.
If you missed the backstory: I have a collection of decorative and enamel pins, and over the years I’ve lost more of them than I want to count. Every pin is tied to a memory, a phase, or some tiny obsession I had at the time, which makes each loss sting more than a little piece of metal should. I still hold out hope that the missing ones will surface someday in a coat pocket like tiny time capsules.
Full honesty: there is no pattern for this one, and there isn’t going to be. I didn’t work from a pattern and I didn’t write one. I jotted down some notes on the basic construction and then winged the entire thing, and some projects deserve to stay that way.
Two Favorites
The first is my AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE pin from the Project Hail Mary movie. Here’s the thing: I did not want to see that movie. The trailers did nothing for me. But it was date night, my husband picked, and I went along begrudgingly. I ended up loving every minute of it and falling completely in love with Rocky, the alien. He is so stinking cute and had me bawling more than once. A few days later I found the pin in the truck. My husband must have picked it up at one of our many theater visits and forgotten about it. So I claimed it. It’s mine now. That’s how pins work.
The second favorite is actually a set of four, and I earned these ones. They’re from MomoCon, my first time ever at that convention, and my first time volunteering to work a con alongside my husband. He talked me into it after I told him how anxious I was about a new environment and that many people. I learned new things, I watched my man do some genuinely cool stuff, and I was so proud watching him do something he clearly loves. I can’t wait to volunteer with him at the next ultra nerdy convention: Dragon Con.
