I’d like to start by saying crochet addiction isn’t real…according to people who don’t crochet.
Crochet starts innocently enough. You buy the hook, pick out a skein of yarn, and tell yourself you’re just going to make one little project…
Before you know it, you’re collecting yarn “for future projects,” taking progress photos after every few rows, and convincing yourself that buying more hooks is somehow the solution to your overflowing project basket.
If any of that sounds familiar, welcome. You may just be a crochet addict. Let’s find out.
Disclaimer: This quiz is scientifically backed by absolutely nothing except years of personal experience, empty wallets, and suspiciously overflowing yarn bins.
Give yourself 1 point for every statement that makes you say, “Yep… that’s me.”
Add up your total at the end and see just how deep you’ve wandered into the yarn stash
0-5: Casual Crocheter
6-10: Certified Yarn Enthusiast
11-15: Crochet Goblin (lives among yarn piles)
16-20: You don’t own yarn anymore. The yarn owns YOU.
- You judge people by how much yarn they could hold.
- You pet yarn in every craft store.
Ponkie Confession: It is an overwhelming urge to fondle all the yarn balls I can. I’m neurodivergent and definitely a tactile sensory seeker and yarn balls just do it for me. 🧶 - “I’ll just finish one more row” has stolen hours of your life.
- You own more stitch markers than actual matching socks.
Ponkie Confession: Yep, specifically the locking kind or the ones that look like light bulbs. Its beyond an obsession. I keep telling myself I always need a few because theyre so small and easily lost, but somehow I rarely lose them. - You have a favorite hook…and everyone else is just pretending theirs is better.
Ponkie Confesion: I in fact have a favorite hook and it’s my Susan Bates 3.75 mm hook. I also enjoy inline hooks more than any other style hook on this planet. - You mentally estimate how many skeins every blanket would take.
Ponkie Confession: In a way I do but it’s usually how many it will take to complete a plushie.
- You say “I can make that” every time you see a stuffed animal.
Ponkie Confession: Guilty. Every time I see a plush, my brain immediately goes, “I can make that.” It’s basically the crochet version of Sam from Holes: “I can fix that.” 😂 - Frogging no longer hurts. It’s just part of the design process.
Ponkie Confession: NO! It hurts. Every time. 😭
- You have yarn hidden in places you forgot existed.
Ponkie Confession: Don’t look at me, I’m a monster! Might as well call me a yarn dragon cause my hoard is vast and uncontainable 🐉 - Your online shopping cart always has yarn “just in case.”
- You refer to your WIPs like they’re family members.
- You know exactly how much yarn is “too little to make anything” and “too much to throw away.”
Ponkie Confession: But it still doesn’t stop me from trying 😁 - You save every scrap because “future me will need this.”
- You’ve played yarn chicken…and lost spectacularly.
- You instinctively look at someone’s sweater trying to figure out the stitch pattern.
Ponkie Confession: I’ve done this with the knitted dishcloths in Skyrim! Yes I am very dorky. - Your phone camera roll is 80% crochet progress photos.
Ponkie Confession: As a designer, yes. Not only do I have an IRL storage issue for craft supplies but I have a digital one as well. - You can identify yarn brands from across the room.
Ponkie Confession: I’m looking at you, Caron Simply Soft. I can spot that sheen from across the room… and it’s still not my favorite. 🤮 - You buy organizers…to organize your organizers.
Ponkie Confession: I bought bins to organize my yarn… then another set of bins to organize the empty bins waiting for more yarn. - You call ripping out hours of work “frogging” as if giving it a cute name softens the blow.
Ponkie Confession: Still doesn’t keep the pain away 😒 - You’ve told yourself, “I definitely dont need more yarn,” while carrying more yarn to the checkout.
Ponkie Confession: I walk into the craft store with a shopping list and walk out with emotional support yarn. The project yarn just happened to come with it. 😬
So… how’d you score?
Drop your total in the comments, and be honest! What’s the one thing every crochet addict does that should have made this list? I have a feeling we can come up with at least twenty more. 🧶
⚠️ Warning: If you scored 16 or higher, you’re legally required to stop at every yarn aisle “just to look.” There is no known cure, only more storage bins.
