The Billie Fish Debacle

Once upon a time, a few years ago, and by “a few,” I mean more like ten, when I was first getting started with my crochet business, I made my best friend a jellyfish.

Her name is Billie, she wanted a jellyfish, and somewhere between the yarn and my imagination, those two things naturally smushed together.

And thus, Billie Fish was born.

The Original Billie Fish

With her bright turquoise head, sweet little smile, ruffled skirt, and magnificent tangle of turquoise, light purple, and dark purple tentacles, Billie Fish quickly wriggled her way into Billie’s heart.

Billie absolutely loved her and eventually sequestered her inside a storage container in the closet of her old childhood bedroom. There, Billie Fish quietly slumbered for years, tucked safely away from the world and dreaming whatever dreams little crochet jellyfish dream.

Or so we thought.

At some point during her peaceful hibernation, a band of particularly determined varmints infiltrated Billiefish’s supposedly secure chambers.

They showed no mercy.

Billie eventually discovered the remains and texted me a photo of the carnage, understandably devastated by the gruesome fate of her beloved jellyfish.

And when I say carnage, I mean carnage.

Billie Fish, after the Great Varmint Massacre. Gone but not forgotten 🪦

The once-fluffy Billie Fish had been flattened, filled with debris, and relieved of a concerning number of tentacles. Somehow, her sweet little face survived the attack, leaving her staring into the distance like she had traveled through the darkest depths of the ocean and returned with terrible secrets.

After getting Billie calmed down, I promised her this would not be the end of Billie Fish.

She would rise again.

Enter: Billiefish 2.0.

We embarked upon a grand Hobby Lobby quest and wandered the yarn aisles until we located the proper colors needed for the resurrection.

Of course, recreating something I made nearly ten years ago comes with one tiny complication: I have absolutely no idea what pattern I originally used.

Thankfully, Billie still had a photo of Billie Fish in her former glory. Between that, some questionable memories, the remains recovered from the crime scene, and whatever crochet magic I can summon from the depths of my yarn bag, I believe she can be rebuilt.

Billie Fish 2.0 may not be an exact replica, but she will carry the spirit of the original, along with a few modern upgrades, sturdier tentacles, and perhaps an enchantment or two against future varmint invasions.

Billie Fish may have met a gruesome end, but her story is far from over.

She will return softer, stronger, and hopefully much harder to eviscerate.

Now, let the resurrection begin.

She may not be an exact replica of the original, but she carries the same bright colors, sweet little smile, and gloriously tangled collection of tentacles. This time, she also has shiny safety eyes, rosy cheeks, and the confidence of a jellyfish who has already defeated death once.

She is softer, sturdier, slightly more polished, and ready to return home to Billie. Her future accommodations will hopefully include significantly better varmint security.

Long live Billiefish!
